Hilton Head Weekend

Before too much time goes by, I wanted to post some of my favorite photos from our weekend in Hilton Head.  We went primarily to celebrate Sophie's birthday.

{A live starfish.  No worries....we put her right back in the water.}

{These wine charms were in the townhome we rented for the weekend.  Aren't they SO ME?}

{Our patio had lots of lizards.  A big hit with the girls!}

{My mom was able to join us for the weekend. I managed to get an action shot while she played with Clara at the pool.}

{An extremely rare family shot.  On my favorite beach at sunset.  Thanks, Mom!}

{After blowing out the EIGHT! candles on her birthday cake, Sophie asked me to take this photo of her.}

Alain & I took Sophie kayaking for the first time as one of her birthday presents.  It was so great and we got to see dolphins (we were really hoping for this)!  I lucked out and came within about ten feet of two who were swimming close by.  One tilted his head up out of the water to look at me and we locked eyes for a moment.  You know what that is?  PURE MAGIC. It's the second time in my life that's happened and, I'm telling you, there really isn't much else like it. He wasn't a tortured dolphin locked up in a tank that I had to pay money to swim with and touch.  He was wild and free and perfect.  I know it was a 'he' because our guide told us.  He's been living in that particular area for at least twenty years.  The people who work for the kayaking company see him almost every day. The kayaking may have been Sophie's present but I left feeling like it was mine as well.

  1. It looks like you had a wonderful vacation. I did one of swim with the dolphins in the Bahamas and it was thrilling to see them upclose and personal but I felt sorry for them the whole time. A wild connection would be more thrilling and I'm glad you and Sophie were able to share a special moment. Hope you had a wonderful summer!

  3. Hey there Audrey. Fantastic photos - love the one of the four of you and also Sophie with the candles in her mouth. LOL. LOVE that you had a special moment with a real live, wild and perfect dolphin. SO cool! That would be a dream for my Carrie - she is a dolphin girl. Me? I'd love that same moment with a sea turtle someday...

  6. Audrey!
    I love that you are making "eyes" at that dolphin! And I am so with you about it being free. Everyone here is crazy about the Aquarium in Atlanta, but it just seems sad to me.
    Great shot of you and your family! Oh, I love all the photos, the girls are getting so big! And their MATCHING swimsuits are wonderful!
    Love, Kay

  10. Hi Keith & Louise! I can't thank you enough for your sweet messages checking in on me. We're all good here. My laptop died and that's the main reason I haven't blogged. Secondly, I'm just ridiculously busy all the time. Like insanely. I don't know why I've done this to myself but all the volunteer work I'm doing is quite meaningful and they're all causes I feel passionately about. I am slowly trying to extract myself as much as possible to make some spare time for myself. You'd be surprised how much I miss blogging....both posting on my own blog but reading everyone else's as well. I've also been taking a sewing class and have been using any spare time to work on my projects. There are so many things I want to blog about that I know I'll never have the time. Argh. As soon as I can find time to take in my laptop, I'll be back in business. I hope it's soon! I look forward to catching up with you ~ hope your lives are full, healthy and happy!!! XOXOXOXO
