Lulu & Goose in D.C.

Our family spent last week in Washington, D.C.  One of my favorites places.  I've spent a lot of time there in my life (being a Virginia girl and going to college only 45 minutes away) but this was the first time our girls visited the city.  I'm not really sure what took us so long!

Honestly, it was too hot to take pictures. It was too hot to breathe.  Plus I was sick and/or recovering the entire trip. But I managed to squeak out a few photos. Here are some of my favorites....

{My nickname for Sophie has always been 'Goose' so I'm quite fond of this picture!}

{I gave Clara a dime and told her she could put it in her pocket.  She rarely took her hand out of her pocket the remainder of the day!}

{Alain found an awesome place called The Swiss Bakery.  Pretty authentic and SO delicious!  We may or may not have gone there three times during our visit...  On this particular day, I had Clara wear her "Heidi"/Switzerland shirt that was a present from her Tio Iggy and Tia Bianca (originally Sophie's present but it's now fitting Clara perfectly)!  Tio Iggy is always with us.  Always.}

Alain agrees with me that we will only return to D.C. during the cooler months of the year.  I'm looking forward to it already and I know the girls are too!

  1. What wonderful photos of an obviously wonderful trip! The girls are growing so fast and they are both so pretty! I love that you have the shirt from their dear uncle and that you are helping them to remember him and cherish his memory. xx
    I have never been to Washington D.C.! Maybe one day!!

    1. Thanks, Kay ~ very sweet of you to say that! I hope you get to go to D.C. one day. I think you'd LOVE Mt. Vernon, George Washington's home. One week wasn't even enough to brush the surface of all D.C. has to offer!

  2. Oh I love these photos, Audrey! That one of Sophie with her had and ear-buds in? I see a snippet of teenager in her already. Eek! But so beautiful. Glad you guys had fun and sorry for the heat. I feel your pain, my dear!

    BTW - Doug lived in Virginia for a while as a kid. His dad worked at the Pentagon toward the end of his career with the Marine Corp. :o) We would love to come back and visit, and we know we will eventually because his dad will be buried at Arlington Cemetery someday. Hopefully not anytime soon, of course, but someday.

    1. Deb, I totally agree with you. That is quite a teenager hat! She won it at the movie theater a few months ago. That's so cool that Doug lived in D.C. Arlington Cemetery is a beautiful, moving place. We didn't make it there on this trip but will go when the girls are older. I hope you guys are able to visit one day.....I know you'd love it! XOXO

    1. I hope you get to go one day, Keith ~ I think everyone should be able to go there at least once. There is so much to see ~ you could stay a month and still not have enough time!
