The Bees Are Back

Yesterday afternoon Sophie came to tell me that the Bradford Pear tree out front was filled with "thousands of bees".   "You should hear the sound, Mommy", she said.  And she was right.

I was never a big fan of the Bradford Pear tree.  Especially right now when it's at its stinkiest!  After yesterday afternoon, these photos and knowing this tree is loved by my beloved honey bees, I will probably be that tree's biggest defender!  And who knew that the blooms were this beautiful up close???  Not me.

  1. Audrey,
The Bradford Pear trees have never been like this before! Honestly, I think they must have liked the cooler weather, they have been so full and luscious. Here, they sometimes bloom with a slight tint of beige, but not this year! Your photos are gorgeous with that blue sky!

    1. Thanks, Kay! I agree with you ~ I've never noticed the tree being this beautiful before. I've never noticed the bees like that either. And I'm not one to miss these things, as you know. (I liked the cooler weather too ~ why can't I bloom like that? Ha!)

  3. Stunning photos, Audrey! My sister has that same tree in her front yard and the first thing I thought about is how horrible it smells when it's in bloom. Haha. But! The blossoms are SO pretty. Hers is an ornamental pear tree though - does yours produce fruit? Mmmmm...I love pears!

    PS: Good eye, Soph!

    1. Hi Deb! Oh I wish it produced some fruit but not a pear in sight. I love pears too! Wish I had a REAL pear tree. Right now the Bradford Pears are shedding all those blooms so you see cars driving around that look like they're white polka-dotted. The kids keep laughing when they see them! :-)

  4. O beautiful!! Is it really stinky? I'm just loving the sheer prettiness of it, such a lovely representation of spring :)

    1. Oh YES! It really is that stinky. Although it doesn't last long....maybe a week or so at the most.

  5. I'm with Sophie ~ I love the sound of thousands of bees buzzing in a blossom-filled tree! When I lived in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, there was nothing I loved more than climbing up into the fragrant apple blossoms and listing to the buzzy, buzzy bees! The AV was one of them main apple growing places in Canada. Your blossom photos are lovely. May you all have a healthy, happy week!
