Bird Fight

Sophie and I were hanging outside on Saturday when suddenly we could hear birds screeching at one another.  It was LOUD.  Soph and I went to investigate and found these guys really going at it.  I ran to grab my camera and tried to get some shots of them.  They were moving fast and it took a lot of attempts to get these few photos.  But I love them.  These birds are impressive with their displays and attempts to intimidate one another.  I can't help but wonder who won!!!

{This picture is definitely my favorite!}

{Not sure what's going on in this shot!}

{Very impressive, wouldn't you say?}

{Almost out of the frame but I still like this one!}

{Most of my shots looked like this.....}

Anyone know what type of bird this is?  Have you ever witnessed a bird fight like this?  If so, did you get any photographs?

  1. Gray birds with that long tail and white wing bars, they would be mockingbirds.
    Perhaps, they are both males and one was in the other's territory, that would be my guess.
    Recently, we had one that imitated our neighbor's car alarm! It sounded just like it but with a more melodic sound.
    Pretty interesting, really.

    1. It's fascinating! And I knew you'd know what type of bird it is ~ I knew you'd tell me more quickly than I'd be able to look it up. I just looked up mockingbirds in one of my bird books and you are so right! Thank you, Kay!!!

  2. Ooh, the one bird definitely looks cowed in that first picture. We see bird fights on our balcony roof frequently, because we're always throwing food out to them there! Sometimes there'd be a whole group of them, of different species even, and it really makes a racket!

    1. Yes, they can certainly be quite loud. I'm really curious what types of birds you have there ~ how many are similar and what different types do you have?

  3. Looks very much like Mockingbirds. Yes, we have several birds who fight over territory in our front yard trees. The funniest one I've seen was when our tiny Blue Birds chased a Blue Jay. That poor bird didn't know what was happening. The Blue Birds were definitely unhappy that he was so close to their nesting box and were dive bombing him from every direction.

    1. GOOD! Those Blue Jays need to be bullied. We have one in our yard as well and I'm always watching him. I've seen him be chased around a time or two. He doesn't have many friends!!! Thanks for visiting and for your lovely comment!!!
