Smitten With Fall

Notes: We recently discovered a small nature preserve about a mile or two from our house. What makes this one different are the MASSIVE granite formations (translation: REALLY BIG rocks!). Archeological digs in this area show Native American habitation going back thousands of years . In this dramatically overdeveloped area, this preserve is a small sanctuary of nature. We've already been there several times. The above photos were taken during a small walk last weekend. As usual, anytime I walk in the woods, I take many pictures of fungi. You know I am a BIG FAN of the fungi, especially those flowery ones that grow at the base of tree trunks. They are SO BEAUTIFUL!  Sophie is amazingly good at finding nests and she finds many like the one in the bottom picture. I somehow got the idea that these are squirrel nests and I'm wondering if that's indeed true or if I just made that up in an attempt to sound like a smart mother.  Feel free to pipe in!

Sometimes, because I am the family photographer, I get upset when I upload our photos because I am  rarely in any of the pictures. Due to that and due to this article (a serious MUST READ for mothers with young ones), I am posting the below picture. It's the only one I could find that was taken within the last couple of weeks. No, I don't like how I look. But who cares. I still look happy and it's obvious I love my baby.

  2. O wow, that looks like such a vibrant, beautiful reserve -- we've got to be grateful for whatever pockets of nature are left in our excessively overdeveloped world, however small. And you look so pretty in your photo; it's no wonder your baby's such a sweetie-pie :)

  3. Dear Audrey,
So happy you found that nature preserve. You will be like me now, finding wildflowers and running to the internet to figure out what they are!
And I love your photo! Remember to ask others to take photos of you with your little ones, they won't stay little long!

    1. Hi Kay! I do need to work on asking other people to take pictures of me with my girls. I never seem to like the pictures at the time but, years later, I always look at them and think they're not so bad. I guess that might happen to everyone!
