Old City Cemetery ~ October

Over the weekend I took a quick solo trip to Lynchburg to visit my sweet Kenzie. Sunday morning was rainy but I talked Mom into joining me for a visit to one of my favorite places.  The Old City Cemetery.  I've only visited the Cemetery a few times in my life but I'd been wanting to return to take pictures.  A dreary, grey, rainy morning does not offer up the best conditions for nice photographs but I enjoyed myself tremendously and can't wait to go back.  Here are my favorite photos from the huge bunch....

There is so much I would like to say about this place but I just don't have enough time.  I'm hoping to visit again in the Spring with Alain and the girls.  Maybe I'll provide little more history of this gem then.  In the meantime you can always check out The Old City Cemetery website if you're interested.

Thanks for indulging me, Mom!

    1. It's funny.....when I woke up and realized it was raining, I thought, "Well, there are bound to be some spider webs!". Rain and spider webs are so cool....

  3. This was a lovely post, Audrey. I loved the spider web. I had never heard of a scatter garden before. It's a nice concept! Have a great weekend with Alain and the girls!

    1. Hi Louise! Yes, they had a two Scatter Gardens....one for animals and one for humans. There's a beautiful pond and a Butterfly Garden right in between the two. It's beautiful!

  4. You might guess that I love cemetaries. You can see some of the most beautiful trees and flowering bushes there. We have an old cemetary in Atlanta, Oakland Cemetary, Margaret Mitchell is buried there.
You should see some of the ancient gravestones in England, so old that the carvings are gone and they are just upright stones...
    "Lovingly placed", I like that.

    1. Ooooohhhh, I'll have to check out Oakland Cemetary. I'm sure it's gorgeous. My friend, Connie, took photography lessons in ATL and this is one of the places they visited to "practice". This cemetary also has some plain upright stones with carvings long disappeared. It's so peaceful there....

  5. So beautiful, and genuinely tranquil. The trees, the sweet flowers, and that lovely web seem to remind us that death is a part of life, simply another part of it, a transition that should hold no fears for us.
